Dreamy Louisiana Plantation Wedding | Krystal + Nick: New Orleans Wedding Photography

“The heart is not like a box that gets filled up; it expands in size the more you love.”

This is a quote taken from the movie Her but reminded me so much of the capacity for love Krystal so clearly possesses and exudes.  From her positive attitude to the souls she surrounds herself, she is comprised of so much love and light.

Nothing I could say in this blog post though could portray more accurately Krystal’s aura or Nick’s admiration for her more than the words he wrote her that morning…

“Krystal, how do I even begin to express the way I feel about you into words? Just know that the length of this letter and the simplicity of words do not reflect the true meaning of my love for you. I wanted to take the time to explain some simple words I say to you all of the time, I love you.

I. When I say I, I mean all of me. It’s everything I’ve got; everything about me. My last dime, my last ounce, my last second, will be for you. I put everything I’ve got behind that first word.

I promise to offer the best of me for the rest of my life.”

“Love. Such a powerful word that gets used quite a bit. I don’t want that to drown this out.

To me it’s that word in the phrase that connects us. Everything I’ve got connecting with everything you’ve got. Love is everything in this marriage. No matter what we face, we’ve got to face it together, and build everything. I feel like we can take on the world with our love.”

“You. This is an easy one. This is me loving you. All of you. Everything about you.

No matter what you feel, think, or say about yourself, just know that I will love it all. You are the most beautiful person I have ever met.

You have an amazing heart that pours love for not just me, but for everyone close to us.

You are super gorgeous. I probably poke my chest out when you are on my arm. It’s just subconscious. You’ll have to get used to it. I’m proud of you.

You know how to take care of me and you know how to bring the best out of me. I love that you know me so well.”

“Now you know what I mean when I say, ‘I love you.’ When I leave for work in the morning in a rush and I say this, it still has every ounce of meaning behind it, always will.

I’m excited for today and so excited to begin the next chapter. I love you.”

New Orleans Terrell House Wedding | Marlo + Rachel: New Orleans Destination Wedding Photographer

Back when arranged marriages were the norm, couples were generally kept apart and not allowed to see each other before the ceremony actually took place. In the event that the bride was undesirable, the groom may have wanted to call off the wedding. When you consider the purpose of arranged marriages (think: political alliances, securing land and wealth, keeping specific families in power, etc.), it would be fairly embarrassing and shameful to the family should the groom be given the chance to change his mind. So, as a result, the groom and bride were forbidden to see each other prior to the ceremony. This is in keeping with the same purpose of the bride having a veil as well.

Nowadays, the tradition has simply carried over and the meaning has changed significantly. Some consider it bad luck (amounting to purely superstition), while others think it simply makes the event more special and exciting.

Marlo and Rachel chose to spend the day getting ready WITH one another. While they had separate bedrooms where they spent time among close friends, they soaked in various moments and sentiments of the day together, as well. Seeing the two of them enjoy such a monumental day unfold with one another was like a huge gust of fresh, cool air on a hot summer day.

Rachel and Marlo live in Austin, but they found The Terrell House to be a perfect place for them and their out of town guests to enjoy a Spring destination wedding in New Orleans.

The love, support, and genuinity present during their day was palpable–the kind that leaves you with the most soul-fulfilling feeling. Since they live in Austin and their wedding was a destination wedding, I wanted to make sure I got to get to know the two of them a bit before the wedding day. They came down a few months before the wedding and we had small bites and drinks at Shaya on Magazine Street where I truly left with the “these are my kind of people” feeling. (Side note: If you’ve never been to Shaya, do yourself a favor and make reservations ASAP. The culinary experience DOES NOT disappoint).

What’s better than enjoying a few quiet moments and a glass of rose’ with the love of your life before a monumental life event?

Most of Marlo and Rachel’s guests stayed at the Terrell House and the guest houses across the street. It was so fun getting to know the various faces and personalities in their lives throughout the day.

I’ve shot a lot of New Orleans Weddings, but Rachel and Marlo’s may have been one of the most authentically Nola weddings I’ve experienced, to date. From the feel of the historic Terrell House Bed & Breakfast to Velvet, the tarot card reader at their reception, it was one for the books.

My absolute favorite part of New Orleans receptions is a good ole’ Second Line down the block. Rachel and Marlo had Treme Brass Band lead their guests a few blocks down to the bar where they’d continue the night’s after-wedding festivities.

Rachel and Marlo, thank you for welcoming us into your New Orleans Elopement, treating us like family, and allowing us to document the love and respect that so clearly embodies and surrounds the two of you. I cannot wait to visit Austin and catch up over good food and drinks with the two of you there!

Christmas Cheer at Destrehan Plantation Mule Barn | Megan + Jordan: New Orleans Wedding Photographer

“You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known–and even that is an understatement.”

– F. Scott Fitzgerald

Megan and Jordan booked me quite some time ago. While lengthy engagements aren’t the norm for wedding photography bookings, I absolutely soaked in the time that gave me to truly get to know the two of them. After two engagement sessions and about two years of planning, watching them say “I do” truly felt like I was watching close friends.

Megan possesses the most gentle, radiant soul–one that just gleams to everyone she touches. After having spent some time with them already, I am constantly in awe of the respect and nurturing affection for one another Megan and Jordan possess in the most refreshing of ways. Gentle, kind, and so clearly ready to spend the rest of their lives with no one else but one another.

We took portraits right at “golden hour,” which had me nerding out in excitement like a little school girl. Whenever my brides are able to make a timeline for portraits that matches so effortlessly with sunset it makes my photographer heart sing so loudly.

We had about 5 minutes of extra time after portraits, so I snuck off with Megan to capture these. I’m so grateful for timeline planning that allowed us a few extra moments. These are some of my most favorite shots taken of a bride ever, ever.

Little Chapel on the Bay | Annie + Reice: Fairhope Wedding Photographer

Together for almost a decade, Annie and Reice tied the knot in the most dreamy 138-year old chapel on the bay in Fairhope, Alabama. With the windows open to the sounds of the nearby water, perfect Fall weather, and succulents draping ever-so-softly over the two large wooden doors that make up the entrance of the church, we laughed, cried, and watched as they said their vows with the most full hearts.

After just short of nine years together, Reice proposed to Annie in February of this year.  Annie is my cousin, so I’ve had the pleasure of watching these two grow into adulthood together, and I absolutely couldn’t be more elated for this season of their lives.

Annie and Reice did not want to see one another before the wedding; however, they did want to exchange letters and have a quiet moment together among the hustle and bustle of the day. My most favorite part of their day was as they were reading their letters. Annie began to cry proceeded by the biggest grin that covered her face. When I asked her what made her cry she said, “Reice told me we could have pizza tomorrow.” Pizza, my friends. I’m pretty sure it’s what keeps the sanity in many relationships.Annie + Reice Wedding
