Four years ago and going into deployment number two, I met Kurt, Shayna, and Madison. Nights of laughter, tears, and sometimes laughter until tears were anything but sparse, as a small group of us girls lived life without those boys around. We stressed together, we danced together, we sweat together, we drank too many glasses of wine, all together among our temporary girly family. A beautiful thing often occurs during deployments–a treasured bond is formed between women, and an even more monumental memory of the time and emotion shared together. I’m ever-grateful that I was able to share that with Shayna’s beautiful soul. Now, with Miss Kinley, an added addition to their family since the last, Kurt kissed his girls goodbye once again, today. I’m ever grateful that I was able to capture these moments with his girls, days before he left for another deployment.
In addition to serving in the Marine Corps, Kurt is a paramedic and Shayna a nurse–both possess such selfless hearts for serving. Madison and Kinley are lucky to have such beautiful role models as parents.
I had so many feel-good favorites from their session, but these few of Kurt playing with Kinley filled my heart to the brim.
Shayna is no stranger to the ins and outs of deployments and I know she will make this time a positive and meaningful one for her girls.
Shayna and Kurt, thank you for entrusting me with documenting such a beautiful season of life for you and your girls.
