They met when Courtney spent a year studying abroad in England, on a random night that she wasn’t even planning on going out. Consequently, it was also a night that Tom and his friends had troubles catching a bus into town and he too, did not think he’d end up where he was that night. But as the story goes, they met that night, spent the rest of her year there together, and the rest is history…
As I arrived to the plantation on that Saturday morning in April, I could tell nerves were a little high for Courtney and Tom. Not in an overt type of way, but in a minuscule, very subtle way that I could see was much different than the last time I spent time with the two of them together. As we spent a couple of hours before the first look, I noticed this demeanor in the two of them, however, the S-E-C-O-N-D the they saw one another for the first time during the first look, it was as if the entire universe shifted and the love between them was palpable.
Of course, morning tea was only appropriate…
I’ve photographed quite a few weddings, but never have I seen such visible excitement in the particular way it was present in Courtney and Tom that day. Even as she put her dress on and the reality of the day began to sink in, her robust enthusiasm filled the room.
Can we talk about how I’m pretty sure every girl dreams of sitting like a princess on a bed like this with her wedding gown? Courtney truly soaked in every moment.
As I asked Tom to hold the bouquet while waiting for Courtney to approach, I’m pretty sure he was thinking, “Umm, is this an American thing for the MAN to hold the bouquet? What?…”
As soon as he saw his lady though, I’m pretty sure I could have had him holding a pair of dirty socks and he wouldn’t have cared one bit.
The entire day was something from a fairytale. From the chandelier hanging from the beautifully overgrown tree trunks, to the softest sprays of peonies, hydrangeas, and roses, I’m pretty sure every detail was nothing short of what Courtney imagined her wedding day to be as a little girl.
